What is Booyah?

BOOYAH! offers enjoyable short gaming videos generated by its’ users. With this app you are able to live stream to major streaming platforms.

“ Too many designers are designing to impress their peers rather than address real business problems.”

WHY REDESIGN–

  • Flexibility and ease of use.
  • Build consistency and trust.
  • Aesthetic and simple design.
  • Match between system and real world.

Problems and Solutions –

GAMES YOU MAY LIKE -

This screen was missing in the original app.

TOP AND BOTTOM NAVIGATION BAR—

FOLLOWING -

This is the screen where you will find the streams from your favorite gaming creator’s live streams, clips and highlights.

Following — Redesign

I have redesigned it more like social media. I think this is much more engaging. There are some features I have added and also kept some existing features from the original app. Since I’m a product designer our responsibility is to make the app more usable and hassle free.

  • Added top navigation bar.
  • Added Stories — Your favorite streamers post stories for more personal touch.
  • Banner to display events that are held and can be watched in the app.
  • Continue watching — Due to slow internet you left the stream in between. Watch Now.
  • Clips and Highlights from the gamers you follow.
  • Click on more and explore all of them.

EXPLORE -

This is the screen where the user will explore other streamers and discover new streamer.

LIVE — Original

  • The data is not visible properly on the banner.
  • Events that are live now or they are about to happen, they have two of them on the screen.
  • There is no enough breathing space in channels you may like section.
  • Ranking is unnecessary as it brings competition within the players. This app is for fun and entertainment.
  • Recommended streamers- incomplete data and displaying the Display picture. Why should I follow you?
  • For gameplay — Click on the profile, go to live streams, select a gameplay then decide.
  • They already have a separate section for clips, why did they add clips in this screen.

Explore — Redesign (Renamed Live to Explore)

  • Instead of Banners, i have redesigned it into swiping cards and added some information like watching, live, language.
  • The user can go directly to their profile by a single click on the profile.
  • Added features like — Streamers on rise and raid streamers.
  • Streamer on rise — Those who are doing well from past few weeks and being liked by the users.
  • Raid the streamer — A feature for the newbies, who are struggling to get views as they have no or less followers. By raiding the streamer, viewers increases and gives confidence to the streamer.
  • Games you may like — Games that are similar you may like them. Example — So you liked clash of clans but you may also like clash royal.
  • Highlights from other streamers you are exploring.

MORE -

This is the screen where you get to see more streams from different streamers.

More — Redesign

  • Made the thumbnail bigger and better, now the user can simply scroll down and select the stream they want to watch. Decision time is less.
  • Profile name and the thumbnail have decent and separate space and added relevant data like No. of followers and what language the stream is in, tags, game name.
  • The top navigation and bottom navigation is fixed as they are important. If the user is willing to search something he can directly click on the search icon instead of going back to the main screen and then clicking on the search icon.

CLIPS -

This is the screen where you get to see short video clips of 30 seconds or less.

Clips — Original

  • The tilt screen icon is on the top which makes un-noticeable, it is also quite unreachable.
  • Profile, like, comment and share button are actually blocking the screen and also difficult in terms of reach. Since the screens are getting bigger, so we need a universal design.

Clips — Redesign

  • I have placed the tilt screen icon in the bottom right corner, which is easily noticeable and reachable for the user.
  • I have changed the position of profile, like, comment and share, also added follow beside the profile name. The user can follow without going to his profile.
  • Here I have separated profile name and like, share, comment as like, share and comment more related to each other but not profile and they are also easily reachable.
  • 3 dots beside share are other options like — Save, Don’t recommend this to me etc.

CONCLUSION -

Over All Booyah is a great app for mobile game streaming but it can be even better. Thank you for reading this case study, I hope it was worth your time.
